The Five Boroughs Songbook World Premiere

The Five Boroughs Music Festival is celebrating its fifth year with a Five Boroughs Songbook which will premiere 20 new songs by 20 composers.  The World Premiere will be at Galapagos Art Space on October 6th.  There will be a Composer Chat before the performance at 6:30, and then the performance will be at 8.  You can order tickets here.

This marks my second collaboration with John Glover, and this piece will be based on my poem “8:46 AM, Five Years Later”.  And I’m excited to discover my friend Michael Tyrell will have one of his poems set by Glen Roven.

Here’s the full list of composers: Christopher Berg, Lisa Bielawa, Tom Cipullo, Christina Courtin, Mohammed Fairouz, Renée Favand-See, John Glover, Ricky Ian Gordon, Yotam Haber, Daron Hagen, Gabriel Kahane, Gilda Lyons, Jorge Martín, Russell Platt, Glen Roven, Matt Schickele, Richard Pearson Thomas, Christopher Tignor, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Scott Wheeler

And the cast of performers:

Martha Guth, soprano
Blythe Gaissert, mezzo-soprano
Alex Richardson, tenor
David Adam Moore, baritone
Harumi Rhodes, violin
Thomas Bagwell & Jocelyn Dueck, piano

Hope you can make it!  There will be premieres of the songbook in the other boroughs throughout the 2011-2012 year, and I’ll post more information about those when the dates are set.
