Some Favorite Books Read in 2010

As with last year’s list, this is a list of books I read this year that stuck with me in some way.  There were many books published this year that I have yet to read (a boy only has so many hours in a day!) and they are sitting in a pile here.  I’ll get to them soon. As for the ones I did get to, they weren’t all published in 2010 (some are classics I finally got around to reading), so don’t look at this as a “best of 2010” list, but more my own idiosyncratic favorites from an arbitrary span of time.

So in alphabetical order (fiction, poetry, nonfiction are mixed here):

My Life as Adam by Bryan Borland

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

Nox by Anne Carson

Long Distance by Steven Cordova

How to Leave Hialeah by Jennine Capo Crucet

Specimen Days and By Nightfall by Michael Cunningham

Ka-Ching by Denise Duhamel

Handmade Love by Julie R. Enszer

Almost Dorothy by Neil de la Flor

Maurice by E. M. Forester

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Scavenge by RJ Gibson

From Harvey River by Lorna Goodison

What Other Choice by Jeremy Halinen

The Iliad by Homer

Equal to the Earth by Jee Leong Koh

God Damsel by Reb Livingston

Heredities by J. Michael Martinez

This Beautiful Bizarre by Montgomery Maxton

A Light Song of Light and The Same Earth by Kei Miller

Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, Letters by Marilyn Monroe

Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates

Wild Life Rifle Fire by Paul Siegell

Plasticville by David Trinidad

Burnings by Ocean Vuong

There are still some days left in 2010, so I may update this list!

  1. Matthew,

Working with you this year, though under unfortunate circumstances, was a highlight in a year of highlights for me. You know I admire and respect you. Thank you, my friend, for including My Life as Adam on your list. I’m glad you enjoyed it. (Also, I have to admit it’s been my lifelong goal to be grouped together with Marilyn Monroe!)

    Bry
