The world’s felt pretty dark since election day, as if Gotham (NYC’s mythic space) has gone into mourning. I’ve found myself up at odd hours, not sure what to do with my racing brain so decided to make use of 4am today by losing myself in something physical: why not print and send out Xmas cards this year? Which is amusing considering I’m not much of a card person. I never know what to write in them that doesn’t sound trite, or what to do with them when people send them; it feels like hoarding to keep them all, and then there’s the guilt when recycling. But something handmade going out into the world to loved ones feels like the best way to counter these dark times.
Two penguins adorn the cover (inspired by Wendell and Cass, the same-sex penguin couple at the NY Aquarium), with some holiday imagery on the inside (wreaths and Moravian beeswax candles).
